A new species of Copionodon lacking a free orbital rim (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) Neotropical Ichthyology
Pinna,Mario de; Burger,Rafael; Zanata,Angela Maria.
ABSTRACT A new species of the copionodontine genus Copionodon is described from the upper reaches of a tributary to the rio Paraguaçu in the Diamantina Plateau, Bahia State, northeastern Brazil. This species represents the northernmost occurrence of the subfamily yet known. The new species can be readily recognized by its large eye without a free orbital rim. Other characters such as the entirely cartilaginous second hypobranchial, and the uniformly broad irregular midlateral dark band further diagnose the new taxon. Its particular combination of characters is superficially intermediate between Copionodon and Glaphyropoma. Detailed analysis, however, indicates that it forms a monophyletic group with species of Copionodon and therefore it should be included...

A new species of Neoblattella Shelford (Blattellidae: Pseudophyllodromiinae) from Amazonas State, Brazil Neotropical Entomology
Lopes,SM; Khouri,A.
Neoblattella mista sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on male genitalia and morphological characters of a single specimen collected in the town of Coari, State of Amazonas, Brazil. By studying the literature on the genus, we determined that N. mista sp. nov. differs from the other four known complexes in the morphology of its genital structures, including the supra-anal plate, subgenital plate, right and left phallomeres, median genital sclerite and tergal modification in the abdomen, and is placed in the new "mista complex".

A revision of the neotropical genus Anahi Martínez (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae) with the description of two new species Neotropical Entomology
Ocampo,Federico; Ruiz-Manzanos,Eider.
The southern Neotropical genus Anahi Martínez is comprehensively revised and now includes three species: A. dentata Ocampo & Ruiz-Manzanos new species, A. guaraniticus Martínez, and A. oblivia Ocampo & Ruiz-Manzanos new species. The new species extend the distribution of the genus from Paraguay and Bolivia to Argentina. A. guaraniticus is redescribed and the characters that define the genus are extended to include A. dentata and A. oblivia. Descriptions, diagnosis illustrations, distribution maps and a key to all species of the genus are provided. The biogeography of the genus and its systematic placement within Melolonthinae are here discussed.

New group, new species and new records from Brazil of the atropos, brasilianus and giganteus groups (Blattaria, Blaberidae, Blaberinae) Biota Neotropica
Lopes,Sonia Maria; Oliveira,Edivar Heeren de.
This paper presents 20 species of the genus Blaberus (Blaberidae) included in the atropos, brasilianus and giganteus groups. A new group is defined, and 12 new species are described. The genitalia of the eight known species are described. The descriptions are based on the morphology of the head, thorax and abdomen, illustrating the structures of the genitalia and variations in the form of the structures, some within the same species. New records for five known species are discussed. All material is deposited in the collection of the Museu Nacional of Rio de Janeiro.

New species of Eublaberus Hebard, 1920, new records for the genus and description of the male of E. variegatus R. S. Albuquerque, 1972 (Blaberidae, Blaberinae) Biota Neotropica
Lopes,Sonia Maria; Oliveira,Edivar Heeren de; Khouri,Andrea.
A new species of Eublaberus (E. serranus sp. nov), also a new record for the genus in Southern Brazil, is described based on the male genitalia. The name Eublaberus variegata is corrected to Eublaberus variegatus Rocha e Silva Albuquerque, and the male of the species is described. Illustrations of the genitalia of the two species mentioned are presented and a key to species is also given.

Petauristidae and Sciuridae (Mammalia, Rodentia) from Tegelen, Zuurland, and the Maasvlakte (the Netherlands) Naturalis
Reumer, J.W.F.; Hoek Ostende, L.W. van den.
The number of known sciurid and petauristid fossils from The Netherlands is nearly doubled with the description of material from the Zuurland boreholes, the Maasvlakte, and the Tegelen claypit. The material from Tegelen is assigned to a new species of flying squirrel, Hylopetes debruijni nov. sp. One molar from the late Early Pleistocene of the Zuurland borehole is assigned to Sciurus cf. S. vulgaris. The remaining finds from the Tiglian of the Zuurland boreholes, as well as the single molar from the Maasvlakte, are all assigned to Spermophilus primigenius; this name is preferred over the suggestive use of names of recent ground squirrels for fossil material. The presence, during roughly the same stratigraphic interval, of a flying squirrel in Tegelen and...

Angeli, A. de; Garassino, A..
Zovocarcinus muelleri, a new genus and species of panopeid crab, is recorded from Eocene (upper Ypresian) strata at Zovo di Bolca (Verona, northeast Italy), on the basis of a single specimen from a rich fossiliferous and coral-reef deposit in the Lessini Mountains (Verona area).

Krobicki & B.W.M. van Bakel (eds.)]: A new genus and species of raninoidian crab (Decapoda, Brachyura) from the Lower Cretaceous of Colombia, South America Naturalis
Luque, J..
A new raninoidian crab, Bellcarcinus aptiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., is described from the upper Aptian of Colombia. The new genus displays a combination of traits seen among some ancient species within the Necrocarcinidae and Orithopsidae, obscuring its family placement. This taxon represents the sixth known genus of pre-Albian raninoidians worldwide, and the fourth known from Colombia, in addition to Joeranina, Planocarcinus and Colombicarcinus. Bellcarcinus gen. nov., together with other Early Cretaceous finds from Colombia and Brazil, represents early stocks of stem-group frog crabs, which indicate that tropical South America might have played an important role in the early radiation of the group. Krobicki & B.W.M. van Bakel (eds.)]: A new inachid crab (Brachyura, Majoidea) from the Middle Eocene of the provinces of Barcelona and Girona (Catalonia, Spain) Naturalis
Artal, P.; Bakel, B.W.M. van; Onetti, A..
Marls assigned to the Coll de Malla Formation (Lutetian) in the area of Vic (Barcelona) and Sarrià de Ter (Girona) have yielded several specimens of a new brachyuran that can be assigned with confidence to the superfamily Majoidea. General carapace shape, the produced and bilobed front, with two longitudinal rounded ridges, the construction of the orbits, the gently arched posterior margin, as well as the strong conical protuberances in the dorsal regions, favour placement in the family Inachidae. The construction and distribution of the axial and branchial regions confirms assignment to the genus Planobranchia. Distinct features seen in the new material, such as the arched epibranchial ridges bounding the urogastric region, the gently arched posterior...

Garassino, A.; Angeli, A. de; Pasini, G..
The galatheoid Paragalathea africana, from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian-Turonian) of Gara Sbaa (Kem Kem, Morocco), is revised, based on the holotype and one additional specimen. A new genus, Muelleristhes, is here erected to accommodate this species; it is placed in the family Porcellanidae Haworth, 1825.

Fraaije, R.H.B.; Krzemiński, W.; Bakel, B.W.M. van; Krzemińska , E.; Jagt, J.W.M..
Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) siliceous sponge-microbial reef strata in the southern Polish Uplands around Kraków have recently yielded two types of sixth abdominal tergites of pylochelid paguroids. We here add a third one, Pylochelitergites exspectatus sp. nov. These small-sized, operculiform remains have a high preservation potential and thus allow us to document the geological history of two families of symmetrical hermit crabs, the Pylochelidae and Parapylochelidae, in some detail.
